Kidney cancer is the 8th most common form of cancer and there are around 7,400 newly diagnosed cases each year. Every day in Britain around 20 people find out that they have kidney cancer.
Kidney Cancer UK was formed in 2000 by two kidney cancer patients who found that there was very little information available on kidney cancer and so they set about forming the first kidney cancer support group in the UK. Over the years, the charity and its reputation has gone from strength to strength.
Many thousands of kidney cancer patients have been helped along their journey and the charity is dedicated to help thousands more who are sadly diagnosed each year. Early diagnosis is crucial as it can hugely improve the chance of survival and the education and raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of kidney cancer is absolutely essential as it can help to save thousands of lives each year.
Therefore, it is vitally important that there is access to the right information at the right time.
Kidney Cancer UK provides up to date and reliable information to healthcare professionals and provides kidney cancer patients and their carers with information resources. They also hold conferences which provide kidney cancer patients with the opportunity to meet others in the same position as themselves and to listen to presentations by kidney cancer specialists. They provide support to patients and their carers and campaign for new kidney cancer drugs to be made available on the NHS.
Financial resources depend entirely on membership subscriptions, voluntary donations and fundraising by members of the public as the charity does not receive any funding from the Government.
